2013 National Scout Jamboree: July 15th - July 24th, 2013
For the last 30 years the National Jamboree’s home has been at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia and because of its size and location it served as a great place for thousands of boys to have one of the best scouting experiences that our program has to offer. However because of some very generous donations to the Boy Scouts of America, the organization will be opening up a new fourth high adventure base in West Virginia in 2013. To mark the celebration, the Boy Scouts have decided to hold the National Jamboree that summer on July 15th – July 24th, 2013 at the new location. The site is named: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve or just “The Summit” for short, and it is located a little over 250 miles west of Fort A.P. Hill. Construction has already begun and has been going on for several months now in order to prepare the site for the barrage of Jamboree troops that will experience the new scout reserve for the first time.
It's an adventure center for the millions of youth and adults involved in the Boy Scouts of America. And anyone who loves the outdoors. And home to the National Scout Jamboree. And the 4th BSA High Adventure Base, with the other three being the Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier and Florida Sea Base.
It's the beginning of the next century of Scouting. With incredible facilities and intense outdoor programs, The Summit is a place that takes kids to the limits of what they think they can do, and then goes further.
