Emerald City Climbing Gym

Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and Lion, and all the Munchkins headed south on the Yellow brick road to Emerald City...Wait, no, that's not quite right.

Troop 21 set out on another adventure. Like a large tornado, as we were quite a large group, we descended upon Emerald City in Overland Park, Kansas at 9:30 at night for our private lock-in.
It was nice since it was an indoor lock-in that we didn't have much gear, but for our sleeping bags and small packs. A communal table was set up and overflowed with treats for the night that every one brought to contribute.  After forms were handed in every one went right to having fun.

The entire gym was ours so everyone scattered in all different directions.  Some went straight for Monster Mountain, 5,000 square feet of vertical and horizontal climbing. Others went to the ropes and foam pit, some went to jump on trampolines and others to play slam dunk basketball.

Monster Mountain was only open for the first 3 hours we were there, but nearly everyone took a turn on one of the 16 top rope areas. Some very easily and without any effort scaled the walls.  A few who were very good at climbing, or maybe they were flying monkeys, did many parts of the wall, each ascent getting more and more difficult. Several earned their climbing merit badge.

After Monster Mountain closed there was still some time to just hang out or play on other equipment.  There was also an intense game of dodgeball and after that a game of Capture the flag ensued. It was a high energy evening and with lots of physicality.

At about 2:30 am it was time for the movies and every one picked a place on the floor and curled into their sleeping bags to watch.  Many fell asleep before the movie ended as it had been a fun, full and physical night.
Rise and shine as we had to be up and gone by 7:30 am.  Use to having to break camp it was kind of nice just to stuff your sleeping bag and brush your teeth and be ready.  We left after thanking the staff and they complimented us on our group.
A quick stop was made at McDonald's and then a fun stop at Cabalas (Holy Catfish!) before we headed back on the Yellow brick road to St. Joe.  As we all know, There's no place like home.
