Indian Caves, Nebraska Backpacking with Troop 21

Indian Caves, Nebraska - For some of the best backpacking opportunities in the local area, Indian Caves State Park offers a wide assortment of trails, shelters and campsites for backpackers in mind.  Troop 21, never to miss a great opportunity, tacked the trails for the Troops monthly campout in May 2014.

Loaded for a weekend of adventure, the scouts of Troop 21 headed for the bluffs for a backpacking adventure.  The previous month the scouts had practiced their backpacking skills on the military trail near Perry Lake in Kansas.  With the training fresh under their belts, the scouts and leaders prepared for a hike into the rugged terrain to test their skills and stamina.  After a long, mostly uphill slog, the troop set up camp high in the bluffs of Indian Caves State park at one of the many available campsites.  After a lunch break, the scouts donned their daypacks for a hike to see the Indian Caves and surrounding areas.  A water resupply and then back to the campsite after a days worth of exploring.  The following day, the scouts packed up for a return trip but made sure to stop for some more hiking at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in NW Missouri.  The hike along a razor back ridge high above the surrounding valley makes for the best views of the lower valley and Squaw Creek.

Fun, adventure, and friendship make lifelong memories for the scouts and leaders of Troop 21.
