Troop 21 helps with St. Joseph Water Palooza

St. Joseph, Missouri - What's a Water Palooza event without a little water?  With a rainy morning forecast, scouts and leaders prepared themselves for a fun day of assisting with the first ever St. Joseph Water Palooza event, a joint public information and awareness fair to showcase water conservation,  waste water management, and information about current and projected water projects in the local area.  Local water management agencies, engineering firms, and consulting services were there to promote waste water solutions, water garden construction, rainwater barrel use, and a variety of other informative and educational topics.  Girl Scouts were on hand to guide youth participants in rainwater barrel decorating and other activities were available for participants young and old.

With so many people, and plenty of activities, an appetite is sure to follow.  Scout and Scouters from Troop 21 fired up the grills and got busy cooking hotdogs, fixing pulled pork sandwiches, and passing out water and soda pop to the waves of hungry and thirsty participants.  Generous donations by local businesses made the concessions possible,  free of charge to everyone who attended.

As the rain stopped early, Mother Nature was kind and a beautiful day full of sunshine and a light cool breeze made for a spectacular event for the first ever Water Palooza.  Participants were also treated with  free admission to the Remington Nature Center and many took to the walking trail afterwards taking advantage of the weather.

Troop 21 also operated a Popcorn Fundraising booth and provided trash pickup and breakdown assistance at the event closing.  A wonderful day with fellow scouts and leaders, providing a necessary service to the community, and earning some much needed funds for the scouts individual accounts made for a great day.  We look forward to next years event.
