What a Great Summer!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 2009 Boy Scout camping season was an exciting and busy
summer. The camp saw 2273 scouts and adults enjoy a week in the beauty and
excitement that is Geiger. One thousand six hundred fifty-two boys made up the
largest group in at least 40 years. Even with the large numbers the camp had
room to spare.
Scouts came from various parts of the country. Sixty troop
brought 922 scouts to Geiger from different councils. The furthest traveled
this summer was Troop 230 from Katy, Texas, a suburb of Houston.
The largest unit this summer was Troop 451 from Lewisville, Texas.
They had 90 campers, 66 boys, which traveled from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Other
troops came close in number of boys attending.
The scouts got to choose from 56 scheduled activities and
merit badges during six periods each day. If that wasn’t enough there are the
evening and some morning activities that accounted for another 44 fun things to
keep everyone excited.
Mic-O-Say ceremonies always are a very significant part of
camp. This summer all ceremonies were held under the stars. There was one week
that our Directing Medicine Man, Walks Tall, had to hurry to miss the rain and was successful to everyone’s
relief.
The 2009 season has
ended. The staff bid farewell to the campers and each other. All the program
supplies have been put away. Everyone is anticipating an exciting 2010 season

Construction is progressing on the new shooting sports
complex. The plans for the new COPE course are made. The program committee is
busy making plans for a great summer ahead.
Everyone is excitedly expecting to see all the scouts and
scouters from 2009 again in 2010 and a few new ones as well.
