Camp Geiger Staff in Training Program
A three week program designed to give all Scouts, even those not yet old enough by National Standards, an opportunity to learn the rigors of STAFF and have access to camp activities as a traditional camper. Two different sessions of six participants each will allow for 12 scouts to participate in the program. Participants are not guaranteed to be accepted to STAFF the following year and must apply to be considered. Participants would pay the normal youth camper fee for a single week of camping.
A unique application is available and interviews would be conducted after the Geiger STAFF selections have been made. Participants must be at least 14 years of age or older and membership in Mic-O-Say is preferred, but not required. Selection will be based on experience with Camp Geiger, maturity level, and recommendations by the interview panel.
Participants will be housed together and function together as a unit at specific times and be integrated with the rest of the Camp STAFF at other times. They will be under the direction of an Area Director (AD) for the G.S.I.T. program. Participants will participate in program and service areas as Assistant STAFF for half of each day. They will be mentored by their respective AD through one-on-one and group meetings for training.
A G.S.I.T. participant's daily schedule will consist of two areas a week. They will spend half a day in each area. The Participant and the Area Director will arrange their specific duties on their first day which can include earning merit badges from their assigned area. Area assignments will change for the second and third week to allow participants to experience many of Camp Geiger’s various areas: Aquatics, Nature, Outdoor Skills, Handicraft, Dining Hall, Trading Post, and Mic-O-Say Dance Practice. Five pm to evening meals will be training and debriefing time for all participants. G.S.I.T. participants will be monitored by the GSIT AD to ensure attendance in STAFF areas, attendance in activities, and any necessary paperwork.
