Scuba Merit Badge

Audience: Youth

Unlike many other merit badges, the Scout must meet training requirements set by outside agencies.  The PADI Open Water Diver Course consists of three main phases: Knowledge Development to understand the basic skills of scuba diving; Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills; and Open Water Dives to review your skills and explore. The safety introduction, equipment assembly and the confined water dives (five pool dives) can be completed during camp.

The open water dives (four dives) will have to be completed outside of camp.  The Aquatics Director will arrange a week in August to work with scouts to complete the knowledge development and open water dives on Beaver Lake near Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

BSA Lifeguard

Audience: Anyone

BSA Lifeguard is a "professional certification" that the Boy Scouts of America require for a person to work as an Aquatics Instructor ata BSA facility, such as a resident summer camp or a high-adventure camp.

It should be noted that the classrom and pool instruction for this certificatio will take all day, every day durig a week at camp and that not all requirements can be completed at camp.

The hours stated below are in error and cannot be changed at this time.  If an individual is indeed interested in this certification to possibly pursue employment at a BSA facility he or she should not select any other classes and might want to counsel with our Aquatics Director.

Buckskin Games Activity

Audience: Youth

Buckskin Games is a series of activities that require skills from the Old West.  The games include muzzle loading rifle, tomahawk throwing, knife throwing, sling shots, and bull whips.  Of course, this is all done under the supervision of trained adults.

The program was designed as an "open" activity for older scouts who may have most of their merit badges.  But any scout may participate.  It captures the excitement and hardships of our forefathers and those pioneers such as Kit Carson, Daniekl Boone and Davey Crocket.  Men who tamed the wilderness and made this country what it is today.

Cycling Trail Rides Activity

Audience: Youth

The camp's fleet of off-road bikes await any scout who dares to take the challenge of the Geiger mountain bike trail.  The activity is open to scouts of all ages.  Each trail ride session will last approximately one hour and scouts may repeat the experience as many times as they like.

The scouts must purchase a Mountain Bike Trail Ride ticket at the Trading Post.  Tickets are $1.  The activity is limited to 15 scouts per period.  Interested scouts should purchase their tickets and thereby reserve their spot on the ride.

Following the 7:30 PM trail ride on Monday, instruction will meet the Cycling Safety requirement for the Cycling Merit Badge.
