Pony Express Council Facts

  • The Pony Express Council serves over 10,000 youth in Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas.  Currently the Council serves 31% of available youth in this area.
  • The Pony Express Council is number three in the nation for the number of students enrolled in Learning for Life (a values-enhancing school based program).
  • Camp Geiger, the council's camp has one of the top ten summer camp programs in America. The camp is presently benefiting from the Vision Adventure capital campaign which is renovating several existing structures, providing a new trading post, and promises to add a beautiful waterfront area to the south side of the camp--all of these a part of Phase I, with an ambitious second phase to follow.
  • Project COPE, the national program in confidence and team building, started right here in the Pony Express Council in 1978 and has spread to nearly every council in the United States.
  • In 2002, the council initiated a bold Juvenile Diversion program aimed at keeping first time young offenders from repeating their errors.
  • The Council serves as the home of the original Tribe of Mic-O-Say, the honor program that returns older Scouts to camp year after year.
  • The Council is governed by the Executive Board and administered by the Council Scout Executive.
  • The Council is administered through five geographic districts: Crossed Arrows, Kanza, Ma-Has-Kah, Otoe, and Robidoux.
