Camp Director's Welcome Statement
Welcome to Venture Quest 2012. I'm Larry Grantham, camp director for this new and exciting program.
The need for a special camping experience for Venturers has been recognized by the Pony Express Council for many years. We think we have come up with the combination of activities to excite everyone. We have been fortunate to bring together experienced leaders with expertise in each major area along with younger staff who have developed activities specific to the interests of venturers.
Eric Walker has taken the lead in programing for this adventure and will give the details. There is no need for me to repeat them. You probably have already check out all the programs offered, at least I hope so. If you haven't, please take time to become acquainted with all the offerings.
There are important management issues, that is where I come in.
First, to attend Venture Quest you must be a member of a Venturing Crew. If you are not a member, you can check with your local council to find one or ask your friends. If there isn't a crew close, start one.
Second, registration is by Crew only. Each Crew will need to provide advisors. You are welcome to combine with other Crews and register together, just let us know. As with any Venturing activity, coed crews need both male and female advisors. Crew Advisors have the primary responsibility for the Crew when they aren't in an activity, especially at night.
Venture Quest 2012 is a combination of an Expedition and an Encampment. We start at Camp Geiger, outside of St. Joseph, Missouri then travel to Arkansas. There are a lot of details associated with the trek, please attend to them. Check back with us frequently to stay on top of what is happening.
We are now taking reservations by Crew. Rosters and actual sign-ups will be after the first of the year. Fees are due in the council office May 1st. The official announcement of fees will come the first of December. There will be a base fee that includes the cost of food, lodging, transportation and general expenses. Each major will have a fee associated with it that is added to the base fee. Fees will be figured at sign-up in the spring.
Everyone will be required to have a BSA Physical, including the doctors portion. Parent consent forms will be required for participants under the age of 18.
Much more information is provided by checking different parts of our website. We will add more specifics as July approaches.
Eric and I are excited. We had a great trip to Beaver Lake and Camp Orr. Check out the pictures and videos. Come join the adventure at awesome Camp Geiger and the beautiful Beaver Lake in the Ozark Mountains.
