Preparations Prior To Camp

While planning for a Scout’s week at Camp Geiger, take special note of the Merit Badge listing. Several activities require preparation on the Scout’s part to help in the completion of the merit badge requirements. Many times the advance work done by the Scout will lead to a greater awareness and understanding of the material presented during the camp activity. Requirements and helpful information can be found at www.meritbadge.orgExternal Link.

Many activities require the Scout to bring or purchase materials to be used during the activity. These materials are available at the Trading Post. The merit badge listing gives an anticipated cost for the materials. This can vary depending on the cost to camp and to what the Scout chooses. A limited number of activities specifically suggest the need for the merit badge pamphlet. When requested, these activities require the Scout to use this resource for identification activities or for other area-specific information found in this publication.

A few merit badges have a required activity fee for participation. This fee helps cover the cost of the materials for that activity and is set for all participants. These fees are to be paid at the Trading Post. A receipt will be provided for each participant and collected on Monday when they attend the first session.

One of the most important requirements  for advancement in the Tribe is to advance in Scout Rank.  Tribesmen are expected to complete these rank advancements PRIOR to arriving at camp.  Completing rank requirements while you are at camp is NOT appropriate timing and may result in the dreaded NAB (No Advancement Blues).  For more information go to the Mic-O-Say Website.External Link
