Peak 2010 Information
Dear Scouts,
In the summer of 2010, I will be leading a group of young men to the country of England to attend an International Scout and Guide Jamboree known as Peak 2010. This Jamboree will be attended by thousands of scouts and guides from all over the world.
The Peak contingents started in 1985 with a group of ten young men and two adult leaders who took the very first trip from the Pony Express Council. Since 1985, the Pony Express Council has sent a contingent to Peak every five years. And the British have sent a contingent to the Pony Express Council and Camp Geiger as well throughout the years. Many of you met the British scouts that were here at Camp Geiger last summer.
I was fortunate to be able to serve as the first Patrol leader for our contingent in 1985. It was an amazing experience and one that has been a treasure to me for many, many years. I am now privileged to lead our group in 2010.
I will be looking for two Registered Adult Scout Leaders and fifteen Boy Scouts to form our contingent. The dates of Peak 2010 are July 24 thru 30, 2010. The full itinerary has not been set yet but we will plan to leave somewhere around July 22, 2010 and return approximately August 14, 2010.
We will arrive in London and take a train to Derbyshire where we will meet and stay with our host families for a day before the camp. After camp we will be re-joined with our host families for a few days and then we will end our trip by touring many places of interest.
Unfortunately, this trip will overlap with our National Jamboree, celebrating 100 years of scouting in the US, and you will not be able to attend both the National Jamboree and Peak 2010.
The process of selection will be thru an application and interview process.
Scout Requirements for Peak 2010: Adult Leaders and Scouts
A Scout must live by the Scout Oath and Law
A Scout must be available July 22 thru August 14, 2010
A Scout must be between the ages of 13 and 16 by the summer of 2010
A Scout must fill out and sign the Peak 2010 application
A Scout must attend the interview process and be in full scout uniform
I am estimating that this trip will cost a minimum of $4,000.00 per person. I will be looking at various and sundry ways to raise money and we should have plenty of time to look at all possibilities. Scouts, at this time, however, should anticipate an expense of around $4,000.00.
I encourage any interested Scout to fill out the application and submit it as soon as possible. The deadline for application submission is July 1, 2009. Applications may be returned either to me or the Pony Express Council Office. The addresses of where to send are listed below.
I am available to answer any questions regarding this trip. Please feel free to either call or email me.
This will be a fantastic opportunity to meet Scouts and Guides from all over the world and to learn about their culture. For more information visit www.peak2010.org
